Chevrolet Silverado RPO Codes by VIN

Silverado owners talk in RPO codes for a reason. With this many possible configurations on one nameplate, the three-character codes are the only precise way to say what a specific truck actually has.

Every Silverado's codes were recorded against its VIN at the factory, and a copy rides along in the glove box on the Service Parts Identification label.

Z71 is the code everyone knows, marking the off-road suspension package and its supporting hardware. The decals are sold online for a few dollars; the code in the factory record is not.

G80 might be the most valuable sleeper code. The automatic locking rear differential transforms a two-wheel-drive truck in mud or snow, and it turns up on trucks whose own owners never knew it was there.

Towing builds carry their own set. Look for Z82 trailering equipment on many years and NHT Max Trailering on years that offered it, along with cooling and wiring content.

Engine and transmission codes round out the driveline picture. The L84 5.3-liter and L87 6.2-liter V8s are common entries on recent trucks, paired with a code for the specific automatic behind them.

Past the famous names, the list runs long: wheel styles, tire specs, bed liner, steps, interior content, and more, all recorded the same way.

Not every code deserves a rabbit hole. Some entries are plant or regulatory notations, so stay general on the obscure ones and lean on the decoded build sheet instead of guessing.

Shopping used, run the list before the test drive. Confirming the Z71 hardware or the locker takes a few minutes under the truck once you know what should be there.

Ordering parts, quote the codes. Silverado brakes, shocks, and cooling components vary by package, and the counter will ask for RPOs anyway.

Selling, print the list. A documented build cuts the questions in half and backs your asking price with GM's own record.
